SERVICE COUNTER

Counter service must greet and serve customers buying food and drink in CHICKANO outlets. You’ll need good customer service skills, making customers feel welcome and dealing with their orders correctly and quickly. You'll need to be a good team player. You'll also need to be able to work under pressure and handle cash. You won’t usually need particular qualifications to get into this work. Previous experience in hospitality, catering or customer service could give you an advantage. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • serving food and drinks

  • giving advice about food content and menu choices

  • handling raw and cooked food safely

  • working quickly and accurately to maximise sales

  • keeping the eating and serving areas clean and tidy

  • operating the till - taking cash and card payments and giving out change and receipts

  • operating vending machines such as coffee-makers

  • refilling hot food containers and self-serve stations

  • handling customer enquiries, comments and complaints

  • clearing tables, dishwashing and other cleaning duties

  • you may prepare all food and drinks

  • you would normally be trained to do basic cooking or re-heating

 

Training And Development

You would be trained on the job by the outlet Manager or Senior Counter Staff. CHICKANO will be conducting structured training programmes for new staff.

 

Whichever setting you work in, you could expect to be trained in areas such as customer service and food safety. You may also be encouraged to work towards qualifications such as:

 

  • Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel & Tourism

  • Practical Food Safety & Hygine Course is a MUST

  • Diploma in Hospitality Services

  • Level 2 in Barista Skills

 

Qualifications:

  • a welcoming, friendly and polite manner

  • good customer service skills

  • the ability to work as part of a team

  • flexibility to cover for sickness and holidays

  • high standards of personal hygiene

  • the ability to work under pressure

  • numeracy skills to handle cash and stock

  • ability to follow all health and safety practices.
